Ash (Hive Trilogy Book #1) Review

I read this book on January 25th – 27th. My initial review on Goodreads was a little more negative, but as I’ve thought it over, maybe I was a little too harsh. See Full Goodreads Review Here, or visit my Goodread Profile Here.

Book: Ash (Hive Trilogy Book #1)
Author: Jaymin Eve, Leia Stone
Number of Books in Series: 1 Published
Publisher: Amazon Kindle, Create Space Independent Publishing Platform
Published Date: December 15th, 2015
Number of Pages: 214

The novel starts with Charlie Bennet, a Vampire / Ash hating human female, who turns out to be not-so-human after all. So if she’s not human, what is she? She’s an Ash. A half vampire, half human offspring. They have super stamina, less appetite (For food anyways), trigger-happy anger outbursts, unquenchable thirst (and I’m not talking about water…), and unparalleled beauty. The only problem? They are ALL male. So what’s up with Charlie, the Independent, Confident, and DEFINITELY female, protagonist.
That’s the confusing part.

This self-proclaimed “Unicorn” is the first ever female Ash – and everyone wants to know why.

Other than trying to find out who she is and where she comes from, drama unfolds with the entrance of the dark and intriguing Rhyder, Head-Enforcer of the Ash Community. Typical romance conflicts arise, and blah, blah blah, she crushes on someone she can’t have.

So to be accepted into the Ash community, a fortified structure known as the Hive, she must go through a culling, which is supposed to limit the number of people with the community. This culling is similar to that of the Hunger Games, in which all but a few die. As you can see, its a very happy story. *Heavy sarcasm*

Things I LIKE about this Book:
~ May Contain Spoilers ~

  1. Charlie’s Independence
  2. Rhyder’s Sex appeal
  3. Charlie’s GBF (Spoiler???)
  4. The Culling!!! ~ It quenched my bloodlust in books (yes, that’s a real thing. For me anyways). I honestly needed some good blood & gore scenes.

>Things I DIDN’T LIKE about this Book:
~ May Contain Spoilers ~

  1. I Don’t understand Charlie’s strong dislike of Ash in the beginning of the book. There’s no foundation for hating them from her POV. She just does.
  2. Charlie’s friend is so… obsessed. She’s too “vampire Clingy”.
  3. Lucas. I don’t understand his role yet in the series. More information to come…
  4. The attack @ the Hive. (DEFINITELY A SPOILER) I felt it had a large build up of emotions and then it ended so quickly.

All in all, the writing was good. I felt as though the romance was lacking. Emotions tended to be more stated and less felt. The ending seemed rushed.
My Rating: 3.5 / 5 Stars…

liked it

Hmm Honestly probably 3.5/5 Stars. ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Loved the action. Felt as though the romance was a little weak. Overall a pretty good book. Would definitely recommend just for the action scenes. But I also felt as if the pain wasn’t very …

Why so bloodthirsty?

Whether its vampires, werewolves or Game of Thrones, it seems we cannot get enough of it. And by “it” I mean blood. Is the Sci-Fi genre really making a comeback, or is fantasy supernatural taking over for good? Well, Sci-Fi never really left, and with Star Wars back in action, who knows how long until the Jedi and Trekies settle down. No H8. I loved Star Trek Next Generation. However, I am completely obsessed with the newer stuff this last decade. The bad news is that there will always be the rivalry. Action VS Romance, Brains VS Brawn, and Old VS New.

The good news? Why do you need to choose, when you can have it all. I have created a list of the top Sci-Fi / Supernatural / Fantasy Epic Entertainment Watch List from 2000 – 2016. This is the TV Show guide… Look for the Movie Guide soon.

In No Particular Order:

The Vampire Diaries (TV Series, 6 Seasons) –
This YA TV series from the CW channel is very popular among teenage girls and women in their early 20’s. The storyline follows the human teenager Elena Gilbert as is dragged into the Supernatural world containing mainly vampires, witches, and werewolves, and later original vampires, doppelgangers, vampire hunters, and travelers. Includes many characters & POVs and lots of tricky romantic interest.
Recently airing their 6th season, the show is still running strong even though some of the original actors left and/or were killed off? 6th season does stray from original plot.

Does contain mild blood/gore, language, and slight nudity.

The Originals (4 Seasons) –

This show came from the Vampire diaries. It draws from characters known as original vampires, the first generation of vampires. The storyline follows their family’s affairs through the city of New Orléans, filled with tons of paranormal activity. Contains great flashback scenes that help gleam more insight to the family’s life.

Does contain mild blood/gore, language, and slight nudity.

“The Originals is the twentieth episode of the fourth season of The Vampire Diaries and the eighty-six episode of the series. This episode provides as a backdoor pilot for the new spin-off, The Originals.”
“The Originals (Episode).” The Vampire Diaries Wiki. N.p., n.d. Web. 21 Dec. 2015.

The Canadian TV Series Bitten (Soon to be 3 Seasons) –
Sexy female with enough bravado to kick you in the ass? How can you not be obsessed? Elena is the only female werewolf in the world. As you could probably begin to presume, things gt a little heated when other horny hot-blooded males take notice. Definitely one of my fave shows.

Does contain quite a bit o blood/gore, language, and very sexual scenes.
Don’t run away screaming though, it’s a great show.

Season 3 airs Feb. 12, no release date yet for US. 3rd Season is said to be the last season.

Supernatural (11 Seasons) –
Though I’ve never seen it (Please don’t kill me), This show is rumored (okay lets be honest – raved about) to be very popular among teen girls. I’ll just have to take your word for it.

Not sure about blood/ gore, violence, language, and sexual content.

Lost Girl (5 Seasons)–
The plotline of this TV series is more mature. The main character is a succubus (similar to a siren / the character relies on her abilities of seduction as her source of energy) named Bo. Lets just say she has a mixed relationship status and her BFF is a feisty human. Main Romantic interests include a sexy doctor female and A ferociously hot were. (I might be a little biased).

Does contain quite a bit of blood/gore, language, and very sexual scenes.

Stitchers (Soon to be 2 Seasons)–
This fabulous Sci-Fi drama follow Kirsten, a time disoriented young adult as she joins a secret government organization that “stitches” her consciousness into that of recently dead humans so that she can see the moments before their death, and unravel mysterious murders and circumstances, all while trying to remember her own murky past.

Possibly mild language, though nothing really comes to mind.

Season 2 airs sometime this spring 2016.

Shannara Chronicles (1 Season) –
Cute elves? Heck yes! The last in a royal Line of the Shannaras, a teenage half elf boy has to team up with an elven princess to keep a sacred tree for dying, releasing a whole bunch of not-so-friendly demons from hell. Based off of a book series that I regret to have not read first.

Some language.

Shadow Hunters: Mortal Instruments (1 Season) –
Also based of a book series, this fantabulous show follows Clary, a newly discovered shadowhunter that is tasked with protecting the human race from supernaturals. But her mother has also been kidnapped by her… just kidding, I don’t want to spoil anything…

May contain mild language.

The 100 (3 Seasons) –
97 years ago, an apocalypse occurred on Earth and few people escaped on a space ship called The Arch. Flash forward to a slightly futurist present day, and 100 people are getting sent down to Earth to see if it is still a viable planet. But Why? Gotta watch to find out!

Does Contain Mild language and some Sexual Content.
